U.S. stocks were mixed and oil prices fell as investors worried that slowing economic growth could curb energy consumption.
The S&P 500 rose 0.2% Tuesday to start the trading week after the U.S. stock and bond markets were closed for the Independence Day holiday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.4%. The tech-focused Nasdaq Composite Index shed earlier losses to gain 1.8%.
