The American singer wore black-and-gold body jewelry that formed the outline of a bra, with matching gold pasties. It also included a miniskirt, wrist cuffs, and statement earrings, and she completed the look with barely-there heels and her sleek hair to one side.
Walker shared an image of herself wearing the Laurel Street design on her Instagram page on Sunday, saying it was inspired by traditional Hmong jewelry and sparking criticism for wearing the indigenous community’s pieces out of context.
Laurel Street, who, along with Walker, did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment, posted an apology on the brand’s Instagram story, noting that she did not mean to offend anybody.
“I apologise for not sharing and educating on the history of the Hmong people and I will further educate myself,” the Instagram statement read.
The statement continued: “Summer Walker is a living breathing goddess, it was not our intention to sexualise these pieces but more a celebration of life and the beauty of women.”
